In September 2006 the Black Country Knowledge Society, Leon Streete, along with the assistance of Ancitel SPC, were successful in bridging the gap between the CARMEN MAS Modules and the BCKS business portal, “Free Potential”.
The main achievement was the integration of two separate programming languages - CARMEN using Java and Free Potential using PHP. This has now allowed the BCKS to successfully trial the CARMEN Authentication and Authorisation modules in line with the Free Potential portal.
This breakthrough also opens up the doors to offer CARMEN to other markets which had previously not been considered. Moreover, through this breakthrough, integration of CARMEN with other programming languages is now more accessible and achievable.
What is the main advantage to CARMEN through this integration breakthrough and who are these other markets?
Not all UK Local Authorities use the same technology and not all have Java set up to operate their main intranet, internet or extranet applications. In connecting CARMEN to the BCKS business portal we have now demonstrated how adaptable the MAS modules are and how they can work in a number of different environments and software / hardware setups.
This is a big selling and technical feature of any product, and therefore shows how MAS can be rolled out to a number of markets with minimum integration requirements.
