in conjunction with W-Spes hosted an eGovernance workshop in Prato, Italy on 5 March 2007. The workshop was opened in front of a broad European audience by the Mayor of Prato, followed by an overview of the CARMEN White Paper on the private sector concept of CRM (Customer Relationship Management) demonstrating how it has undergone transformation to become relevant in a public administration setting. Once introduced to the CARMEN project, delegates were given a project overview including achievements gained from implementing the CARMEN CRM modules within Administrations in the UK, Italy and Germany. Additional presentations during the Workshop were made by W-Spes and other European projects, and ample networking opportunities for presenters and delegates were available during the course of the day. To highlight the difference in needs between the private and public sector, the CARMEN Project published a White Paper entitled ‘From Customer Relationship Management to Citizen Interaction Platform’. The paper outlines the major differences between CRM in the public and private sector and shows how the private sector CRM approach can be applied to government agencies to better serve citizens, and how in this context it is commonly referred to as Citizen Relationship Management (CiRM). Citizen Relationship Management focuses on ‘serving’ rather than ‘selling’ but both are premised on the fact that in order to obtain best results from the relationship, there has to be identification, differentiation, interaction and personalisation. In fact it is personalisation that ultimately accounts for the breakthrough in delivery.
The CARMEN White Paper is currently being distributed across Europe by being submitted to various conference events. To read a copy of the document please click here.
News Flash: Budapest Delegates Hungry for CARMEN
The Carmen Project was on display at this year’s International eParticipation and Local Democracy Symposium in Budapest on 26-28 July. The event, which took place at the Inter Continental Hotel on the banks of the Danube, brought together over 300 delegates from across Europe and the world to discuss the evolving relationship between eGovernment and eParticipation and to critically re-examine the way in which ‘readiness’ in these areas is defined and measured globally. CARMEN was regularly featured at the event through the inclusion of leaflets in delegate packs, presentations and an exhibition stand.
